Tuesday, Nov. 16
Discussion Topic: "Velvet Ghetto" and the "Glass Ceiling." This day we will feature scholarship that has contributed to publication of studies that describe the "Velvet Ghetto" and the "Glass Ceiling" in the public relations profession. Some of the scholars that contributed to these studies will share their insights with us and we will discuss the implication of the findings from these studies on our profession.
Wednesday, Nov. 17
Discussion Topic: Work-Life Balance. This day we will address the challenges of balancing work, family, and personal demands -- on how this balancing process varies according to gender, especially in the public relations field.
Thursday, Nov. 18
Discussion Topic: Perceptions and Expectations: A Matter of Perspective? Research indicates that many students start out with expectations of equal pay in treatment in the public relations field but eventually accept organizational policies that lead men to expect (and receive) higher salaries and more responsible leadership positions than women. This day we will share opinions about this issue, based on our current perspectives as students, scholars, practitioners, senior leaders, etc.
Friday, Nov. 19
Discussion Topic: Looking Back and Looking Ahead. To conclude our leadership discussion, we will use this day to look back on our experiences this week and, looking ahead, consider how we will apply the lessons we have learned.
